Life is packed with sad inequalities.
how do you feel knowing that the 1,000 naira you easily spend each day could be the salvation of a family, could provide shelter for children somewhere, could start a business for a suffering mother?
i think we have to realize that most of us are privileged. that you're reading this right now, most probably, means you were able to subscribe to a data plan. how much is a data plan? a mother her children was evicted out of their little home - which was for them a comfortable home - because they couldn't pay a month's rent of 1,500 naira. how much is your data plan?
it's not a terrible terrible thing to be privileged. i mean, you worked hard for what you have. but we all had something: an education, a family, an educated family, friends, options, community. some of us had opportunities and doors opened up for us before we were even born. some people had none. none.
i think knowing that you are privileged creates a space for empathy. that's what they world really needs: empathy.
