The great wall of c*****a
from dubrovnik, we headed west direction home. our first stop was on the peninsula pelješac, where we spent the night in the very calm countryside around ston. it’s a perfect place to calm down and relax. the village had a very famous fish restaurant, too (look for: seosko domaćinstvo ficović 🐟). the picture was taken a few minutes drive from our airbnb:
did you know that there is an european wall of china? this one is located in ston (croatia), built in the 14th century when ston became a part of the republic of dubrovnik. today, you can only walk a part of the walls: inside ston or from ston to mali ston (3 kilometers, takes roughly 40 minutes).
the walls were last used in the 19th century for defense of the city and its salt pans (a big contributor to the wealth of dubrovnik). today, it is the second-longest preserved fortification system in the world.
you can visit the walls throughout the year for 70 kuna.
