With centenarios officially rolling off the line i thought i'd share the story of my own centenario allocation.
it all started early in 2016 when i heard whispers of something special coming out of sant'agata bolognese. it was solidified when my friends, at @lamborghini
informed me of the mind blowing response to the private presentation at pebble beach....they had 50 signatures for the coupe and there were only half of those allocations worldwide!
i didn't see the car, didn't see the presentation, all i knew was that it was based on the aventador platform and not the huracan as all the useless, misinformed media outlets were reporting....the aventador was and still is my favorite car of all time so i decided to pursue....aggressively.
i made my calls to the factory directly....was stonewalled three times by marketing telling me this car does not even exist..i kept going and after about two weeks i get a call...
words cannot describe the euphoria i felt having that conversation and the subsequent anticipation of what was to come...
a few months pass by and i fly out to dubai. i meet francesco, the middle east rep for lambo...we sit down at the armani caffe at dubai mall. he drinks coffee i have a filet....we talk and we talk and then the conversation turns....he has my allocation, but my allocation was for a roadster and not the coupe....i tell him the batmobile isn't a roadster...i ask him if it's going to be like the veneno whereby the roof cannot be closed because there isn't one....he tells me it is...i tell him i don't drive roadsters, and this just won't do...he replies saying i pray you don't like what i'm about to show you and consider the next one off yours...he shows me the very first detailed renderings of the beast. he shows me schematics, vectors, chassis and bodywork. intensely detailed. i expected a veneno, but this wasn't going to be a veneno. i realize now that there is and will only ever be one veneno. this was a tribute to the man that believed he would build the ultimate street worthy supercar. he was never a fan of the track. i on the other hand, relish it...
do you agree with my decision? would you have accepted the roadster instead?
