The salt water fills my nose and the waves crash against the shore as i am filled with the feeling of nostalgia. the beach brings me back home, no matter what side of the country it’s on. i remember the days i skipped class in high school, opting out for a day at the beach with friends simply because i was feeling rebellious. i remember the time that i got a little too d***k and fell asleep on the beach, only to wake up hours later burned and aching but still blissful because i caught the most amazing sunset. i remember going to the keys with my family, paddle boarding at sombrero beach, kayaking at bahia honda, snorkeling at the sombrero lighthouse, laughing and bickering and loving one another all the while. i remember swimming at the jupiter inlet and being surrounded by a family of manatees, seeing them up close and personal as if they had no fear of humans. i remember after a long night of partying, heading to the beach to catch a blue and pink sunrise before calling it a night. i remember walking the nude beach (that we didn’t know was a nude beach) in california, talking about life and finally reaching the end of the beach, away from the crowd just in time to catch the most glorious fluorescent purple and orange and pink sunset. these are the moments that the smell of salt water and the sound of the waves crashing give me. in this moment, i am at peace and i am at home.
