In the words of jared leto's neander wallace from blade runner 2049's trailer, "shhhhh. happy birthday."
my third favorite movie of all time, blade runner, turns 35 today. i'm not a fan of the original theatrical cut, i prefer the 2007 "the final cut," much, much more. but whatever. i'm really referring to the 2007 version of this movie. the 1982 version is kind of cringe-y. i recommend you watch "blade runner (the final cut)," it's the real version of blade runner.
blade runner is really a movie you either enjoy it, or you don't. however everyone has one thing in common, nobody enjoys this movie the first time they watch it. nobody. unfortunately, people watch it once, don't enjoy it, then jump to the conclusion of, "overrated!" in my opinion, this movie is an absolutely flawless masterpiece. the direction, the production design, the screenwriting, and especially the cinematography i think is some of the best ever put to film.
when you first see it, you don't know what to think. i didn't know what to think, i know. it's a movie that nobody can tell you what it's about, you have to decide that for yourself. for anybody who hasn't yet seen this movie, i suggest you just keep an open mind about it and if you don't necessarily love it the first time, then watch it again in a few weeks.
just behind good will hunting and mad max: fury road respectively, it's my third favorite movie of all time and i don't see that changing any time soon. it's my favorite ridley scott movie, and one that will be a personal favorite for the rest of my life.
