✊🏼 the oakland athletics tweeted a statement in support of players who kneel during the national anthem moments after their rookie catcher bruce maxwell, became the first major league baseball player to do so.
"the oakland a's pride ourselves on being inclusive. we respect and support all of our players' constitutional rights and freedom of expression," the team tweeted saturday.
catcher and rookie bruce maxwell became the first major league baseball player to kneel during the national anthem saturday night, one day after president trump attacked nfl players who did the same.
trump said at a campaign rally friday that people should walk out of football games if they see players protesting.
"when people like yourselves turn on television and you see those people taking the knee when they are playing our great national anthem - the only thing you could do better is if you see it, even if it's one player, leave the stadium," trump said. "i guarantee things will stop."
he also said owners should fire players that refuse to stand during the anthem.
"wouldn't you love to see one of these nfl owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'get that son of a b***h off the field right now. he is fired,'" trump said.
nfl players and owners have roundly condemned trump's comments.
nfl free agent colin kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem to protest racial violence last nfl season.
We’re too often guilty of thinking that our parents arrived on this planet as fully functioning adults on the day that we were born. that they don’t have pasts of their own prior to our birth. that the father is not also a son, that the mother is not also a child. your father or mother may have had a tough beginning, enduring things we know little about. and yet we more often discount their pain and overvalue ours. #empathy#compassion#love

Sometimes the smallest efforts will make the world to someone else. never underestimate the microscopic and macroscopic effects of your empathy.
Protesting should always be done in peace. this is not about the rights of ethnic cultures; its about the right as a human being to be treated as a human being. where two or three are gathered in his name............. #civilrights#fairtreatment#listen#empathy
