I’m so proud of everyone involved in the video for ‘girls’. i asked them to express themselves freely to celebrate self confidence and expression keeping in mind what the song is about - which is not allowing anyone to assume or treat you in a way that you don’t want to be treated. @ohrosarose
contribution was this and i’m so grateful for her honesty and confidence in sharing this.
says “for @saltashes
music video ‘girls’ i wrote on my skin all the things that people have said to me to persuade me to engage with them in a physical way that i was not comfortable with.
i recently had to deal with this type of problem again in a social situation and even as a strong feminist who knows herself and would speak up for anybody else, i still freeze and am unable to tell them, no, this is not okay... please keep your hands to yourself/don’t speak to me in that way. i then feel guilt for not standing up for myself and women/people as a whole who have to go through this. it’s so frustrating.”
we shouldn’t be ashamed of saying no to something we don’t want but most importantly we shouldn’t even be put in those situations. please, everyone, take a step back and think about your actions and ask yourself am i being disrespectful? it’s easy to blur the lines.
video link is in my bio.
