above is a set of 3 pictures, 2 of which i took two years ago at the former eastern front, while metal detecting. the relic you can see is a allgemeines sturmabzeichen, a n**i medal, awarded to those who participated in at least three seperate assaults in a supporting way. the left photo shows a wehrmacht soldier, decorated with the allgemeines sturmabzeichen. the 72+- year old relic is in an amazing condition, with the gild still on there. swipe 👉 for the cleanup photo!
the allgemeines sturmabzeichen (or general assault badge) was first introduced on june 1, 1940. they were awarded to the wehrmacht, waffen ss and ordnungspolizei (order police) who supported an infantry attack but weren't part of specific infantry units and therefore did not qualify for the infantry assault badge. prior to the introduction of the tank destruction badge, the allgemeines stormabzeichen could be awarded to those who single-handedly destroyed an enemy tank or armored vehicle. the later model had some minor changes, including a small plate in the bottom which either showed 25, 50, 75 or 100. the numbers stand for classes which indicate the amount of assaults the person had participated in.
