ghangaria,or govind dham is a tiny hamlet, situated at around 3100m above sea level. it serves as a base camp for trekkers to famous world heritage site, valley of flowers national park and the sikh pilgrimage hemkund sahib.
surrounded all around by mountains and birch trees, it has lot of hotels, a gmvn rest house and a gurudwara for the stay.
it is here the two rivers flowing from valley of flowers and hemkund, pushpawati and hemganga meet to flow together as lakshman ganga.
the streets is full from mule dungs but once you climb a little towards the trek, you will find some beautiful spots to sit around and enjoy the scenic view of this tiny village. seeing the white frothing water of the rivers never get enough.
to reach ghangaria, you have to cross the single bridge from govind ghat and reach pulna. from pulna it is a 10km walk with climb and slopes.. last 3 km of the climb is bit steep and tests your physical and mental strengths especially if you are new to trekking. mules are always available for those who want to skip the walk. you can also fly here from govind ghat by a helicopter, though it drops you 1km before the village.
