as i was studying in daniel this morning, it was only a quick 7 verses, but there was so much packed in there. with so many cross-references in the experience guide, it was so great to see how this time in history is in different sections of scripture. it helps me build an even more sure foundation in god's word reading how different books of the bible document the same event.
and then to be encouraged thousands of years later is so powerful as well. i found daniel 1:2particularly encouraging during this time., "the lord god gave jehoiakim king of judah into his hand,".
to know god is over all seasons and circumstances helps me to start today with the blessed assurance that he is over what is happening right now. he is using it for his glory and our goodness even when it doesn't look or feel that way. i'm sure daniel didn't feel that way when he was chosen by a foreign king to live under his rule and his religion.
in verse 7, the king changed daniel and his friend's names to names that revered false gods. how humiliating that would be for someone with a name that exalted god. this had me thinking, how are we letting the rule and worship of the gods of our days, especially in this time of quarantine (which can easily feel like an exile), giving us a new name when it's one that doesn't come from god? as we look to who god is in the bible, we are able to see who he says we are. not what the world has to say.
that's what we're digging into over on fb! we'd love for you to join us! click the link in our profile to join the group!
