I had a blast talking trash and swapping farah‘s (@maedelsabende
) cleaning and body care products for #zerowaste
options 😁💚! it’s still in their stories, so head over (if you speak german 🙈😝)!
i posted this in my story, too. (swipe to see what is what) and a lot of you questions 😆💚! here are my replies!
what is the difference between hair soap and solid shampoo?
i have posted a link to my blog article on no poo options, so make sure to check that one out for more details (link in bio).
👉hair soaps are real soaps—aka saponified oils—adjusted to what’s best for your scalp and hair.
👉solid shampoo is made from the same tensides as liquid shampoo, just without the water content. (which is why they are solid)
🛑both kinds are often sold as “shampoo bars”. check out my article to learn how to tell them apart!
where can i buy these things??
👉hair soap/solid shampoo: at your local soap maker, in health food stores, all-organic stores, at lush (not a recommendation, in fact, i’d recommend you to go for organic options if accessible), #zerowaste
shops, and i think even walmart and many drugstores sell hair soaps!
👉solid conditioner: you can make your own (sorry, don’t have a recipe), try health food stores or zw shops. i don’t even use solid conditioner! i go for the apple cider vinegar rinse (1 tbsp acv + 2 cups water).
👉olive oil soap: we love the traditional middle eastern olive oil soap, but will go for the most local and accessible #palmoilfree
soap (e.g. kirk’s coco in north america, or local soap makers), be it a bar soap or liquid castile soap.
you can buy olive oil soap in middle eastern or greek shops. watch out for french (usually marseille) olive oil soap, as these tend to contain palm oil!
is it expensive?
it depends on what you go for. many of these soaps are sold as a lifestyle product, so yes, you pay a premium. we only buy solid shampoo, hair soap, and solid conditioner as gifts. we use a simple and inexpensive castile soap (i.e. the olive oil soap, kirk’s etc.) for our body care, and an affordable acv (or homemade kombucha vinegar) rinse instead of solid conditioner. we also went water-only for our hair😁💁♀️💁♂️
