Qotd: Do you have a most favorite book series that you read in 2018?? If so, which series??
-
You guys... I read SO many great series this year, both new reads and re-reads, and it’s super hard to pick just one favorite, as I enjoyed them all so much. 🤓 One series that I enjoyed the most was The Lunar Chronicles by Marissa Meyer! I was super late to the party with reading these books, but I was determined to get to them this year, and I LOVED THEM so much! I am still having a hard time getting over them. ☺️ Did you read any series in 2018?? Did you have a favorite??

Qotd: Who’s your most favorite new (or new-to-you) author of 2018??
-
Have you discovered any awesome new authors this year that are now you’re new favorites?? I have discovered SO MANY new (and new-to-me) authors, including Helen Hoang, who is definitely a new auto-buy author for me! I loved *The Kiss Quotient*, (which is not YA, btw), and it really made me want to read more books from the genre. I also just recently read *The Hating Game* by Sally Thorne, and she’s a new favorite author as well. 😊 I love these books! (If you have any recommendations in this genre, please share!) 🤓 What about you? Do you have any favorite new authors for 2018??

Happy Wednesday lovelies! Hope you’re having a wonderful week so far! What are you all currently reading today? I’m reading A Language of Thorns by Leigh Bardugo and omg I’m absolutely loving it so far! I’m onto the fourth story already and I have to say, I completely forgot how beautiful Leigh Bardugo’s writing is! I’m in love😍💜

Time to wrap up one of my favorite genres - historical fiction! | #bestbooksof2018 |
.
2018 was a great year for historical fiction - so many fantastic books set in countless time periods and places - there was something for everyone!
.
My four favorite historical fiction novels that I read this year were:
.
• A Well Behaved Woman by Therese Anne Fowler
• The Summer Wives by Beatriz Williams
• The Air You Breathe by Frances de Pontes Peebles
• The Nightingale by Kristin Hannah
.
My favorite of the four was The Nightingale. Technically I’m three years late to the party on this one but I don’t care. It completely blew me away!!
.
At well over 400 pages, I read the entire book in one day and ugly cried my way through at least the last 100 pages. I recommend it to every person looking for the perfect historical fiction novel or emotional read.
.
As a fan of historical fiction, there are few things that I appreciate more than an author who takes the time to do their research and really captures the setting of the book with detail and accuracy. Kristin Hannah nailed that with The Nightingale and I loved the Author’s Note that provided even further information and background on her inspiration for the story.
.
However, the author who really goes above and beyond in this avenue is Therese Anne Fowler. A Well Behaved Woman felt as much a historical fiction novel as it did a biography. Beautifully executed and skillfully written, I feel like I learned so much from this book. I look forward to reading her other novel, Z, and learning equally as much about Zelda Fitzgerald.
.
The Air You Breathe was an absolute epic that centered around female friendship and relationships in a way that I haven’t experienced since I read The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. And that Brazilian backdrop with its colorful cast of characters was to die for!
.
Finally, The Summer Wives was my favorite summer read. This was my first Beatriz Williams novel and I am so grateful to have finally discovered her. I can’t wait to dive into her past books and enjoy even more of her daring heroines set in glitzy and glamorous bygone eras of America.

what was your favorite historical fiction book this year?
British novelist E.M. Forster once complained that long books “are usually overpraised” because “the reader wishes to convince others and himself that he has not wasted his time.” To test his theory we collected reader ratings for 737 books tagged as “classic literature” on @goodreads, a review aggregator with 80m members. The bias towards chunky tomes was substantial. Slim volumes of 100 to 200 pages scored only 3.87 out of 5, whereas those over 1,000 pages scored 4.19. Longer is better, say the readers. The phenomenon that Forster describes, akin to literary “Stockholm syndrome”, is only one possible explanation. Another is survivor bias, since those who like a book enough to finish it may be more inclined to leave a review. A third is cumulative value: a handful of the books longer than 1,000 pages are anthologies, which tend to be judged on their overall worth rather than the quality of each individual piece. To find out the ideal length for your holiday read, follow the link in our bio. Image: @donoughomalley #book #goodreads #reading #novels #whatthenumberssay
