Thinking of films that evoke a population’s feelings/needs during a specific historical time. after the vietnam war, hollywood saw a surge of films that depicted the nation’s paranoia against the government. these films include taxi driver and the conversation. after 9/11, films such as zoolander, serendipity, and kissing jessica stein released in hopes to allow a method of escape; producers cut any shots that included the world trade center. currently, two films reflect current events in america: mother! and sorry to bother you. while i wasn’t sold on mother! after my first viewing, i’m coming to terms with its presence and praise. it’s kind of incredible it opened worldwide, when was the last time you saw a film like mother! in theatres? i’m guessing never—unless you’ve seen sorry to bother you, but more on that later.
