. her predecessor, the queen elisabeth 2 was actually was actually smaller than the first ship of her name, just so she could pass the canal. but in the early 2000 ships larger than the panama canal were no rarity, due to the ongoing efforts to build an expansion of the waterway. this expansion was completed last summer. now, the qm2 can cross the new locks of gatún, like shown in our 1:1250 scale diorama on exhibition deck 6.
