My 15th favourite male performance is #harrydeanstanton
when stanton passed away, it was hard to accept. he lived a long life, sure, but he brought so much warmth and realism to so many of his roles that is severely lacking in many actors today. he truly was one of the last of his kind. in paris, texas, we may see the best example of what he could do.
for a good portion of the film, travis doesn't talk. he keeps his words to himself. we even question his sanity. once he opens up, he cant stop. he tells stories of old and new. we are told where he wishes to go: to right his wrongs and reunite with his life partner in the titular location. once he finally finds his former wife, his confession towards the end of the film is so d**n heartbreaking to hear that it's almost unbearable. stanton doesn't need to shape shift or become a new person. he's so d**n good at just being what the role requires at it's purest form. if your eyes don't well up here, you might be a gargoyle.
