✈️solo travel ✈️
🤚travelling on my own is a first for me (not @pretamangeruk
- this always happens when i travel and there's one nearby 😋)
🇮🇪 at 31 years old, i've never travelled more than a 3.5/4 hour car journey without someone else being there. today i am flying over to #cork
in the beautiful land of #ireland
and hiring a car to do some exploring. would you believe that i've never been to ireland, despite having an irish passport...!
🤔 how does it feel...well up until now it's been a whirlwind of excitement and empowerment, with frequent swirls of worry, fear and anxiety. i can't wait to have a little adventure, and it's novel to think there will only be me to decide what to do. but i am curious about how lonely it may feel and how it'll be to make memories that no one else i know will have. also, wish me luck with navigating the roads...!
❇️ my beautiful writer friend, rach of @whats.on.earth
has some of the most helpful, practical and valuable travel tips and advice for solo travellers, or anyone looking to explore the world a bit, i'd highly recommend giving her blog a read. it's a treasure trove of her vast expanse of experience and it certainly gave me a lot of courage and helped me to feel far more prepared.
❗now i considered apologising, because, you know, it's not like i'm going far away, for long, to a wildly different culture or language, i have definitely had thoughts that i'm silly for feeling some of the things i have. then i realise that we are all on our own journey, the experiences and emotions we have are not for comparison to others. they are simply ours. not right, wrong or in need to justification.
👜 i've also learnt to very carefully check cabin luggage size, that i can easily eat two breakfasts (#pretporridge
for the win!) and that you should check your #crochet
kit for scissors before you go to the airport 🤣
