Eating fat is crucial to your health (gasp)

I'm sure you're familiar with the old saying that eating fat will make you fat, stemming from the fat-free craze of the 1970s.  For decades (and even still, arguably) we've been afraid of eating fat.  Ironically, ever since the fat-free fad occurred, we keep getting more overweight as a population than ever before. 
The truth is eating healthy fats is absolutely imperative to our brain health, and we must be doing it on a daily basis.  Lack of these healthy fats can cause our brains to feel foggy, have problems with attention, and poor memory.  Healthy fats include avocado, fatty fish, olive oil, and nuts, to name a few.  Our brains need these healthy fats to function correctly, and fitting them into our daily diets can be really simple.

We all know I’m a travelling pop-tart who can’t sit still for very long. So when I got asked to hop on a ferry to Victoria for a staycation with Portage West Cottages I was on it like a fresh tub of crunchy peanut butter.

My 3 days consisted of how many restaurants I could possibly eat at before my pants no longer fit (this might be why I’m not wearing any) 😂.

I’ve been listening to @garyvee’s podcast, specifically one of them, over and over and over again when I lift... instead of music.

He talks about the fact that there are so many of us that are making ourselves fail or keeping ourselves from our full potential because we value the opinion of others.

Think about how damn true it is!?

How many times have you changed your mind about something because you were scared or what someone would think?

How many times did you say no to something when you wanted to say yes?

How many times did you make yourself believe that you were incapable because someone else doubted you?!?

I finally started recording my workouts on my own cause I said eff it. These people can think what they want. I enjoy doing this.

I don’t care if people judge my struggles, they are what make me me.

2️⃣Make healthier/ source quality versions of food I can’t say no to - ever! eg protein pancakes or healthy dessert options (from #4weekbikinibody recipe book)
.
3️⃣Preparation is key - 
A. my ‘gym’ clothes in living room night before so all I need to do is change in morning & do a session before baby lili wakes up.
 B. freeze my veggies weekly for my non negotiable daily berry + veg smoothie (recipe from #4weekbikinibody)
C. Have frozen meals in freezer for the hard days with lili - she had a cold/teething last week so this was a life saver - for me & Hubby”

I see it a lot: people getting beyond frustrated when they aren’t seeing the results they want to see, as quickly as they’d like to see them. ⁣
There’s a massive difference between 12 week goals and 12 month goals. Both are have their place, but sometimes focusing on a 12 week transformation when your body needs longer than that isn’t what will lead you to long term results after the 12 weeks is over.

A lot of times I’ll see people get frustrated and want to jump ship and give up on their current plan because progress isn’t happening as fast as they’d like it too. But unfortunately, we’re seeing a lot of people today that have been chronic dieting for far too long - so long, that the body will need longer than 12 weeks to fully recover. Holding on to fat no matter what? Can’t sleep through the night? Always aching and tired? Muscles feels like they’re on fire when you walk up the stairs? Brain can’t function like it used to? Digestion a hot mess? Those all need to be taken care of first. And that means things can take longer and move slower than we’d like. ⁣⁣⁣

So here’s the thing: if you focus on the big picture, work with someone who knows what they’re doing, and stay patient and consistent, result will come - it just might take 6-8 months of sitting in a maintenance and working on health markers before you can truly work on aesthetics the way you want. ⁣⁣⁣

Some of my most successful clients have been with me for over a year. Why? Because they’ve sat in a healing phase and done the work to set them up for us to manipulate the body like they wanted. But they sat in that healing phase, longer than they wanted, and focused on other goals in the meantime. ⁣⁣⁣

Remember, just because you aren’t seeing the results you want right now or as quick as you’d like, doesn’t mean you aren’t going to see them. Stay consistent, be patient, and work on other stuff besides just aesthetics. Because when the time is right, then you can crank things up and really start to manipulate aesthetics if that’s one of  your main goals.

I am so excited about my new dining room table! You may or may not have noticed the glaring absence of something. Like, chairs.

My health goals are far, far, far bigger than looking good naked (although that’s a fantastic side-effect of healthy living for sure). I aim to live a high quality life at whatever age I am lucky enough to reach, even if I reach triple digits. My definition of a high quality life means the ability to have an intelligent conversation because my brain is functioning optimally, being able to get up easily from a chair and from the floor, be able to move and live independently, be active outside of the home, take care of my own business in the bathroom (🚽 🚿), and travel if I so desire. Achieving that goal means being proactive NOW by taking care of my body in the best ways possible. And healthy living goes beyond what I choose to put into my mouth, but the conscious, mindful decisions I make each and every day about the way I live my life. My thoughts. My actions. My food choices. My exercise. It ALL counts.

Back to my dining room table. I’ve decided to try out a minimal furniture concept in my new home, including a Japanese-style dining room table with no chairs. Say what? You may have heard the phrase, “sitting is the new smoking”. We are not moving enough; we are not moving functionally; and we are sitting way too damn much! The human body simply was not designed to be sitting in a chair all day long. My new #furniturefree concept forces me to get up and down from the floor more frequently, more more functionally, and encourages me to sit less.

I’m not sure yet whether furniture-free will be my forever way of life, but I am enjoying this #livingexperiment and perfectly okay with being the resident weirdo for now.
