Have you ever scoffed a bath bun? how lovely is this shot by @monalogue
of beautiful bath, england. love peeking inside those rooms - they look so cosy and warm, whilst outside it's all a bit dark and moody. perfect picture for this weekend as we are getting lightly slapped by another storm...nothing too bad, they say. but enough to b**w away some of our autumnal coat.
so what is a bath bun? apparently it's a sweet roll made from a milk-based yeast dough with raisins and sugar... it sounds wonderfully lardy. in fact, jane austen herself wrote about these baps of delight in january 1801, where she wrote plaintively of "disordering my stomach with bath bunns". and that extra "n" in buns isn't a mistake. austen is simply implying that she liked eating lots of them as a form of comfort eating. i suppose equal to our modern day "yummmmm!".. they were eaten at the endless round of breakfast parties. like brioches, they were eaten hot if possible, split open and liberally doused with melted butter. hungry now.
ahh bath! what a lovely place you are. thousands of years of history... unique roman baths... beautiful honey-coloured bath stone buildings that have charmed famous authors and artists...and of course gorgeous sugary goodness on every street corner. you must visit, simply you must. and perhaps partake in a few bun nibbles before you head home.
ps...if you have a few minutes, please consider voting for elizabeth in the drama category in the national television awards via the link on my profile. click vote now then skip the categories till you see drama, and scroll down where you will see the shot of lily cole as queen elizabeth. highlight that. then you can skip to the end and enter your name and email. don't tick the boxes and you won't get any annoying emails. i had a tiny part in it (some say the most moving delivery of a letter ever in a television series) and it would be smashing if it won. thank you. i love you very much.
super shot by the ace @monalogue
