Flex spots an empty burger wrapper on the floor and he's trying not to think of food...lol!! Anyone who has competed should know this look; if you don't, you didn't diet hard enough!!! Flex is a real super perfectionist but he still had his moments where he'd almost lose his head on his diet, it happens! I am maybe lucky that I don't have a sweet tooth nor eat any processed food ever, so dieting for me was actually just a case of eating slightly less of the same foods; Dorian was the same, we'd both eat clean year round, just reducing the calories as the shows got closer...we kept it simple...but it worked (we never had to go really low calorie, though it felt like it, and to anyone else, they'd think we were eating a lot!), if you look at Doz's conditioning at any show I think you'll agree he did o.k. lol! Mine, too, was pretty decent and luckily (or maybe not through luck!), I still stay tight year round...my weight hasn't changed in years (though at 51, I've not grown either!). The funny thing was, though, that as I got closer to a show and my body fat dropped to seriously low digits, I would start craving foods I never ate anyway!!! I would lie awake at night and think about cheese, ice cream, ice cold fizzy drinks!!! Crazy, but that's contest dieting for you...and I did always buy in a tub of ice cream for after the show...but the thing I ate most of afterwards was porridge, bowls and bowls of porridge with protein powder mixed in lol!! Now it's long been all over and I still eat the same food's (just much less of it all!) and love it!! Iron for life and a bodybuilder for life, I suppose!!! Now what's that over there, is it a burger wrapper....lol! For those of you dieting right now, keep on it, get nasty peeled and think of that freaky, shredded condition! It's consistency not crazy last minute tactics that gets you sliced and diced Yates style. Great that Flex is coming back...and yes, he'll be remembering this feeling soon! Those muscle bellies though.....stunning.

When is it okay to eat past comfortable fullness? Many people learning intuitive eating get hung up on this question. It's easy, especially in the beginning of learning to eat intuitively, to treat intuitive eating like another form of dieting with rules and guidelines that must be followed. I am a strong believer in the hunger/fullness scale and it's usefulness in recovery and refeeding and weight maintenance as well as reaching set point for ones body. In the beginning I admit I tried to always stay working the boundaries of slightly hungry to slightly full. As my journey progressed I began to realize this was fear of weight gain holding me back, and that the hunger scale wasn't meant to be a hard and fast rule. When is it okay to eat past fullness? When is it okay to get overly hungry? It's always okay, as long as you aren't doing this for the wrong reasons like restriction or restriction related binging. For instance- today I was not hungry but it's my hour long lunch. I won't be able to eat again until dinner. I elected to eat past comfort knowing that later I would be hungry and would be grateful for the extra food. Sure my belly feels tight right now... but later it will feel fine. Am I gonna gain weight from this? Of course not. As I continue to follow my bodies cues, later in the day, my body will regulate my appetite accordingly. When you follow intuition and let your body guide most of the time, it makes no difference. Trust yourself.
