(3/5) possibly one of my favourite #voxpops
ever. they were brutally honest, and unwittingly condensed (so aptly) the love vs. arranged marriage internal conflict that i bet a lot of us in india think about. from a film-makers point of view, i don’t think we went into this film wanting one of the sides to be shown in a certain light. there are difficulties and challenges on both ends. one of the couples we filmed with for instance (see previous clip), had run away from home after meeting only once- they were both 19 & unemployed - with no means to support each other. yet, the first thing the love commando shelter did is marry them off because it was the “safe” thing to do (“and because love must, end in marriage”). speaking of the love commandos - it is a hugely problematic organisation in my opinion and yet, film after film, foreign press shows them in a shining golden light because who doesn’t want to make a story on self declared protectors of love, right? (we did not, in case you’re wondering).. too long to explain here but if anyone is interested in more details abt them, dm me.
