In my longing for books set in nigeria, i have activated my @okadabooks
account but i truly need recommendations as i don’t really enjoy spending time surfing for books and ending up with a not so great read. .
so praise for this book by @naijasinglegirl
. - you can’t put it down once you start.
- absolutely hilarious and very relatable. - the editors did an amazing job, diction and grammar were 💯
- its one thing to be a blogger, its another thing to write a great book. unlike books i read in the past, this was not like a dear diary entry. - i like that the book highlighted a few ills that happen in our society and i wish we would have more conversations around it and not just laugh it off e.g the pressure to keep acting like you are better than your neighbor, the notion that a woman is incomplete without a man, the expectation from the girl’s parents to send them money from her nysc pay, the maltreatment she faced living with her aunt. sad that it was her mum’s sister, really sad. - thankfully in the end she thrived. - i found it a bit disturbing though (it is fiction abi) that edikan was not making any attempts to improve her mind and would rather pass up a job offer for a relationship that had no guarantees. .
if you’ve read the book, share your thoughts.
