Vivien reigns at rsc
last week i went to stratford-upon-avon for a meeting with one of the lecturers of our vivien leigh 50th anniversary event.
i took the opportunity to visit the shop, the premises and a sneak-peak of 'play is the thing' exhibition world with the dress as its centrepiece.
i'm beyond pleased that our vivien has been chosen once again to be the face of a shakespeare anniversary exhibition. it's a real honour.
i must warn fans wanting to visit this exhibition that we heard that this dress will be on display until the end of february so make sure you visit before it's replaced!
will dedicate an article about the dress and exhibition the next week or so. today just wanted to share a display of photos i took at the rsc shop where vivien looks like an exquisite warrior guarding all the merchandising. the items are divine and couldn't help myself so bought almost everything (and even took a cheeky selfie with lady macbeth). you must see my cabinet display in my living room now, it's like a mini macbeth shrine!
afterwards i took a tour of the rsc complex where i was fascinated to learn that the floor boards we were standing on right at the beginning of the tour, were the same boards of the stage laurence olivier and vivien leigh performed during the 1955 royal shakespeare festival!
in 2006 the main auditorium was reduced in size so audiences could be closer to the action. this created a space outside the auditorium where they built corridors to surround it and where the floorboards were used. you can see it at the end of this photo display.
