Look at that mouth!
.
We’ve posted before about Port Jackson sharks (Heterodontus portjacksoni) because of their crazy, corkscrew shaped eggs - but they also have really interesting mouths!
.
These sharks are native to southern Australia and have specialized teeth that differ from front to back. The front teeth are small and sharp, while the back teeth are flat and blunt. This dentition allows the sharks to grasp small hard-shelled organisms like mollusks with their front teeth and crush/grind the shells with their back teeth.
.
Interestingly, the shape and proportion of teeth types changes as the Port Jackson Shark ages. Young sharks have sharper front teeth and fewer blunt back teeth, while adults have more developed blunt back teeth (Powter et al., 2010). This change in dentition across life stages facilitates shifts in feeding.

Since everyone is talking about eggs 🥚
Here is a shark in its egg 🦈. Give him the egg likes 😁
Read more : 👇
@grantthomasphotography found this little guy floating around in the surf 🌊 his gills were still pumping so he must’ve been close to breaking free 😱
Usually they are stuck between rocks or crevices... so luckily Grant found it and managed to wedge it between some rocks on the sea floor 🙏🏼 What is it?!
It is a bamboo cat shark in an egg! Otherwise known commonly as a mermaids purse!

Say aaah. 😲😲
Striped mackerel are filter feeders opening their cavernous mouths as they swim and sieving zooplankton from the water with their gill rakers acting like a net.

This plane belonged to Pablo Escobar and was used to traffic drugs. Crashed near Normans Cay in north Exumas. Amazing views inside and outside of the water.

When you turn up dressed the same as your friend.💧🦈
.
Did you know? Tiger Sharks can live up to 50 years with females tending to grow larger than males. It is believed that females are bigger, because they need to be able to carry their large litter of pups during gestation. The tiger shark is the only species in its family that is ovoviviparous; its eggs hatch internally and the young are born live when fully developed. .

Kingfishers
#mental_wildlife

Kingfishers or Alcedinidae are a family of small to medium-sized, brightly colored birds in the order Coraciiformes. They have a cosmopolitan distribution, with most species found in the tropical regions of Africa, Asia, and Oceania. The family contains 114 species and is divided into three subfamilies and 19 genera.

Kingfishers feed on a wide variety of prey. They are most famous for hunting and eating fish, and some species do specialise in catching fish, but other species take crustaceans, frogs and other amphibians, annelid worms, molluscs, insects, spiders, centipedes, reptiles (including snakes), and even birds and mammals. Individual species may specialise in a few items or take a wide variety of prey, and for species with large global distributions, different populations may have different diets. Woodland and forest kingfishers take mainly insects, particularly grasshoppers, whereas the water kingfishers are more specialised in taking fish. Photo: Mario Wong

A diver from the @OneOceanDiving research team swims next to a female great white shark off the coast of Oahu, Hawaii on January 15th 2019. Great white sharks are extremely rare in Hawaii and this individual may be one of the largest recorded. Shark populations around Hawaii are declining and there are no laws to protect sharks from being killed for their fins. The divers from the research team study shark behaviour and teach people how to avoid adverse interactions. Credit: AFP/@oceanramsey #oneoceandiving #Hawaii #greatwhiteshark #shark #marinelife
