It was 1990. the #rappinisfundamental
album hadn't even dropped yet and i had just finished doing the 2 songs for #bigdaddykane's #itsabigdaddything
album. i met this guy named #melquan
and he told me "i love the stuff you did for kane. i want to get some tracks from you for my new artist. by the way, this is just one of them. there's like 8 more of them. they got this idea where they fuse the #martialarts
with #hiphop." i was like "ok cool." so this new artist that he had was a dude named #thegenius. i ended up doing 10 songs for his album #wordsfromthegenius
and my brother #lgexperience
did 3 songs on the album too.
i was still living in #lgprojects
and every time melquan came thru he would bring somebody else different. one day he brought this other guy thru who said his name was #ason. he called himself #olddirtybastard. he told me he had a "drunken style" of mcing.. i did some demos with him too but they never got released.
but before working with any of them there was the leader of this "clan" of mc's called #princerakeem. melquan told me that he had a single deal on #tommyboyrecords
and he needed a remix for a song called "sexcapades." i did the remix and two years later, fast forward to 1992, another beloved member of this "clan" that i became friends with rang my doorbell. i let him inside and he was proudly holding up a copy of a 12" single. it was #wutangclan's "protect ya neck." he looked at me with a smile and said "we did it, g. we did it." all hail the mighty #wutangclan
