Lazienki palace, warsaw. known as the palace on the water, the royal residence was originally a 17th century bath house that was remodeled between 1775 and 1795 by architect domenico merlini for king stanislaw ii augustus. holes intended for dynamite were drilled into the palace walls during world war ii, but orders to blast the building never came, and it served as a barracks for the remainder of the war. today it is one of the great attractions of warsaw.
