Today is international day of peace so this seemed pretty apt. and it just happens to be one of my favourite quotes/pieces of advice/little bit of wisdom
i could talk all day about this. you see, peace is something that i value above and beyond most things. and, due to a vast array of mental health issues (which have caused me to lose my peace of mind, and just my mind in general) peace of mind is something i have really had to fight for and work at every day. in my work and career i have made decisions to put that peace ahead of success and money. in my home life, family life, and even life with my friends, i constantly make conscious decisions to protect it. i know my limits - it’s something i simply can’t put a price on. it took me a long time to feel comfortable justifying that to others, and probably even myself, and it’s something i will be working on forever and i certainly don’t always get it right
but i’m no longer afraid to be honest about why i can’t do certain things or commit to particular plans or projects - as selfish as that may sound. i still struggle to say no (i am very much a people pleaser, so i’m still learning). in a way it’s my ultimate form of self care. but by being honest and true to myself it’s definitely helping me manage my mental health in a brand new way
it’s also part of the reason why i started season & simplicity. to help others add a little peace to their lives. how do you protect your peace? what small ways ensure you have a little peace in your day?
