Day 6, the sun temple in jaipur 🇮🇳
i spoke too soon. while the sunrise along the ganges river was truly once in a lifetime, i think our sunrise climb towards monkey temple takes the biscuit and i'll tell you why 🐒
i've slowly started to realise sunrise and sunset are my favourite times to photograph places, especially in india where the sun looks like it burns more intensely and the low lying fog always creates an ethereal feeling. so we set an alarm for 5am thinking the monkey temple would look amazing during dawn. however we both thought the temple would be ground level and just another temple except overridden with monkeys. nope.
our driver (and new mate samil, top bloke 👌) dropped us off 10km east of jaipur's pink city & at the foot of a short but steep climb. at the top the sky was slowly turning pink so we climbed past what must have been 100 monkeys & up 300 steps. on the list at up, the locals greeted us with namaste, far different to the constant hassle we had back in varanasi. as we came over the top, we could hear prayers singing, hymns playing and smell incense lingering. then, out of nowhere it felt like the long, fading hills in front of us rolled away to reveal this great big burning star we call our sun. we just stood there and watched it grow bigger and brighter until we physically couldn't look anymore. a big long ramble about another sunrise, but i have to say it was extraordinary in every sense of the word and completely unexpected 🔥🌄🇮🇳💯🌶️
