Would you jump into the columbia river while it was snowing? what if it was for a good cause?
our trending reporter lizzy acker joined the special olympics oregon super plungers and took the plunge (in her polar bear onesie!) ahead of saturday's event.
the super plungers spend 24 hours at the beach, jumping into the 40-degree water on the hour, every hour, and raising money for special olympics oregon. this year, according to chair of the board and second-year super plunger greg hathaway, they have raised $64,000.
the group began their plunges at noon on friday and will take their final run at 11 a.m. on saturday, when a much larger crowd of polar plungers, raising more modest sums for special olympics oregon, will join them.
while registration is closed online, anyone who wants to plunge can show up saturday at broughton beach with $50 and join the plunge. 📸 by @mark_w_graves
