Just when we thought the front of the house might be cleaned up for christmas, the scaffolding migrated over from the side. this next phase of the exterior preservation is all about repairing decades of water damage to the stucco facade. from the street, the house looks like it may be made of white marble, but it’s actually just stucco that has been designed and painted to look like marble. while it’s a beautiful look, it does require some upkeep. and up on the five dormers and chimney the stucco has deteriorated quite a bit. if you swipe through the pictures, you can see some up-close drone shots from this summer. because there was no proper flashing around the dormers or the chimney, the water from the roof came into direct contact with the stucco, causing serious damage and rot to the exterior. so the team is now up there, removing the old crumbling stucco, replacing it entirely around all the dormers and the chimney, adding copper flashing, and repainting it with the same marbeling technique as the originals. i’m hoping we can get the drone up there again to do some after shots!
also, spoiler: the front porch is looking awesome!
