saree body description :-
the saree carries thousands of equally spaced peacock motifs woven with geometric precision and placed inside squares. mayil (peacock) motif - the city of kanchipuram in tamilnadu was once described as a peacock in ancient tamil literature. it’s also believed in hindu mythology that during a war between ravana & lord indra, the latter had used the peacock’s feathers to hide himself and hence as a sense of gratitude he later transformed the once dull looking feathers into a shade that resembled the rainbow.
saree border description:- hamsam (annapakshi ) motif considered an auspicious symbol is commonly found on the head of lamps (in south india). otherwise known as ‘chakravaha’ often found on temple sculptures , these elegant creatures have always stood strong with its roots firmly gripped to tradition since ancient times . .
vanki ( gold armlet ) a traditional ornament worn by women in festive occasions have an inverted v-shaped design. from afar, what appears to be a plain block of colour (in the border) is actually filled with columns of zigzag lines closely packed, which is otherwise known as the vanki design. .
