Rex to the rescue! we had a vip drop by mmcc la recently and want to share his amazing story with you. on december 30th, the boomershine family was enjoying a beautiful beach day in santa monica when their very alert 3-year-old, rex, spotted a sick pup stranded on the rocks. he told his mom, they got the attention of an la county lifeguard and called marine animal rescue for help.
rex and his sister, belle, watched as the emaciated pup was safely netted by mar and loaded in the truck to be taken to mmcc la. the pup was severely dehydrated and likely wouldn't have survived another 24 hours without help. rex and his family are true heroes!
and so, we were thrilled to have them visit a few weeks later. rex hadn't stopped talking about "sealy" (his pet name for the sea lion pup) and wanted to know how he was doing. these events don't always have storybook endings but we were happy to report that this pup was recovering, feeding well and playing out in our patient viewing area.
not only did rex get to reunite with his rescued pup but we treated him to a special behind-the-scenes tour. his pup is the one looking a lot healthier on top of the platform. rex made a big difference in this little sea lion's life and we'd love to have him as a volunteer in another 15 years. go rex go!
big thanks to @theboomershines
