Today’s view from the mobile office. let’s talk about nutrition in the 4th trimester. friends, the most valuable gift you can give a new mama is a nutritious meal. actually two meals. one for now and one for later. making food and eating well is not priority with a new baby in the house. there are many tips that can help streamline the process such as stocking your fridge with healthy, minimal-to-no prep options such as fruit, veggies, yogurt, eggs, hummus, etc. the pantry is never fully stocked unless you have nut butters, nuts and seed, sprouted whole grain bread, high fiber cereals and crackers. the industrious mama will prep freezer meals to take the pressure off of the eternal “what’s for dinner?” question. and for many families getting familiar with a slow cooker is often a saving grace.
yes, the new family might appreciate the influx of new onsies but let’s be honest, they have to be washed and dried before touching the newborn’s skin meaning more work for them. not necessarily cool.
a meal can take the stress off the new family for an evening and allow them a nutritious dinner, letting them to settle in to tackle the most important thing: loving on their new babe.
i was given this gorgeous smoothie by a new nana today as i visited with her daughter and grand babe. packed with nutrients and flavor (mango, spinach, pineapple and banana) it was a perfect afternoon snack. the new mama and papa are lucky to have such a doting grandparent looking out for them in these first few days as they settle into being parents.
