- 📍this is a basic breakdown of how to get started training toward your goal.

📍it is important to note that warm up sets are not included. these are mainly meant for core exercises like bench, deadlift, squat, etc. assistance exercises may require a different number of reps, generally higher (never 1 rep max). of course these rep ranges, sets, and rest intervals don’t apply to all exercises. you need to carefully assess how much load is being used which could help in better identification of how much rest you should take. for example, using heavier weights close to your 1 rep max will typically require longer rest period versus weights that allow you to lift for a lot of reps may only need a short rest period.

📍there is one obvious element missing. its the assignment of weight. typically you want to calculate how much weight you should lift for a certain number of reps based off your 1 repetition max lift.

wasn’t happy with top single but it’s technically 10kg more than last week. 120 moved ok and wanted to go up but back was really acting up today. not overshooting was definitely the right call because could only get through 2 backoff sets before things got way too painful. pulling 15kg below your best when you’re basically 2 weeks out is not the most motivating thing. gotta remember what matters is not what I pull today but what I pull on meet day

My first few videos on this were with 405 lbs; they both went up kind of easy. On my 3rd video, I pulled 425. I made the choice to go for 450 lbs in my 4th video but struggled to push my hips forward, engaging in the lockout. The last video I am very disappointed in. As you can see the weight went up fast; that is something you hardly see in sumo dead-lifters. Normally, the initial pull at the beginning of the lift should be harder off the ground; then gradually get an easier lockout once past the knees. Here you see the COMPLETE opposite. Now I’m not the one to make excuses. I feel 100% I just gave up on the lift. Maybe if I didn’t drop the weight right away when I stopped, maybe I would have locked this out.

I’m 7 weeks out from my competition and I realized tonight that I’ve been not going as hard at my squats. It isn’t because I hate squatting, it is because my mental space has been an absolute war zone and I know my squat is my weakest lift. I voiced it tonight that I’m done avoiding my weakness but instead going to face it head on to make it a strength.

Are you really isolating your hamstrings when you do your hamstring curl exercises?

In this video the client is bracing her core and contracting her glutes to increase posterior pelvic tilt. This ultimately helps hamstring isolation occur as it decreases the opportunity for other muscle groups to help you move the load and minimises unnecessary movement through the pelvis. 
Second video:
In this video the client is moving through the range of motion without any control and you can clearly see the extension (arch in her back) as well as anterior pelvic tilt, which leads to increased activation of the erector spinae muscles and a decrease in hamstring isolation as it becomes a global muscle movement. You may feel like your using your hamstrings but it is highly unlikely. 
It’s important to focus on isolating muscle groups when using isolation machines. This may mean decreasing weight that you’re using and starting from scratch with form - but you will get so much more out of the exercise!

This is a “Hands Free” variation of a Front Squat (doing 198lbs/90kg for working sets) and call me crazy but I love them! Lol
.

The key is getting the bar in the right groove in your deltoids so your wrists and hands don’t have to do much work (after all, they really shouldn’t be anyway!)
.

The hands-free front squats makes it easy to find that sweet spot because otherwise you’ll drop the bar. It also teaches you really quickly to keep your elbows high. I think it’s a great way to learn the front squat starting out, and it’s also a great little drill for more advanced lifters to use from time to time to ingrain good technique. ————————————————————

Spend the day learning the theory and practice of the low bar back squat, the press, and the deadlift with Starting Strength Coaches Shaun Pang ( @skwats) and Joannes Marvin ( @mpinoe ). The camp will begin with a lecture focused on the basics of the squat and the press and will include a discussion of the Starting Strength model of the lifts, including the anatomy and forces at work in their execution. We will move into a practical session with plenty of time under the bar for all lifters. Participants will have an opportunity to put into practice the concepts addressed in the lecture while receiving coaching through their warm up and work sets. Through the entire process, attendees will learn the hallmarks of a properly executed squat and press and how it should look and feel when it is performed correctly. Participants will go through the practical portion of the squat, take a short break and then go through the practical portion of the press. Following the press portion of the camp, we will take a 45 minute break for lunch.

Following the lunch break, we will discuss the Starting Strength model of the deadlift and the anatomy and mechanics involved in the pull. After the brief lecture, lifters will learn the 5-steps of a properly performed deadlift while being coached through their warm-ups and work sets. Similar to the squat and press session, attendees will learn how a correctly performed deadlift should look and feel when done according to the model.

After the deadlift practical session, we will return for a discussion of programming and how to identify and correct common technical problems. The camp will wrap up with a question and answer session. Whether you are just starting out with strength training, struggling with the basics of the lift, or looking to polish your technique and understanding of these movements, you will come away with valuable insights and experience to benefit your training. Attendance will be capped at twelve to allow for individualized instruction.
