Some days ago i received a box full of beers around the world. today's country: ireland.
i guess, that "guinness" and "kilkenny" are the most famous irish beer brands.
since the year 1759 "guinness" is brewed at the st. james gate in dublin. actually there are about 20 breweries all over the world, where guinness beer is brewed. regular checks guarantee that the beer taste the same around the world.
the guinness extra stout surprises with a pleasant malty scent, which remained to the end. the beer presents itself with a creamy foam head. the flavor switches between bitterness and sweetness. a really good stout.
originally "kilkenny" beer was brewed at the st. francis abbey brewery in a small town called - surprise - kilkenny. 1965 tage brewery was take over by guinness. the location in kilkenny was closed in 2013; since then the kilkenny beer is brewed in dublin, too.
the kilkenny irish red ale is a spicy, slightly malty beer. after an hearty gulp i tasted hoppy bitterness. but more bitterness than i like. not really my cup of beer.
after this test i definitely know what i will order in an irish pub next time.
