Few weeks ago usa goaltender @nichens29
came for a tune up. word of advice to all goalies “the elite goalies simply can do the fundamentals way better than everyone else.” some basic warm up drills we typically do to feel our edges and loosen up.
nic is working on staying light on her edges during her initial shuffle and then dig into the ice for load up. you will see she gets her whole body to move together head, shoulders, hands, and her knees drive back together (very common issue with goalies is dragging their pushing leg). keep your movements together and keep them smooth.
tpushes into a quick shuffle. most goaltenders dig in to h*****n their inside edges therefor locking themselves up. as you see nic is still able to stop quickly on her tpush yet keep mobility. her upper body remains steady, and her feet always go back to parallel so she maintains her momentum.
all of these movements are fundamentals of goaltending. all of us have done these movements, but this is an example of perfecting them.
