Our sails are not for sale! #oursailsarenotforsale
the whole treatment of the opera house has been utterly deplorable.
in spite of its world heritage status the berejiklian nsw government has bent over backwards for the gambling industry so it can use the sydney opera house as a giant billboard/scoreboard for the everest cup millionaire’s horse race.
just this morning mike woodcock who started an online petition to stop the racing advertisement on the opera house, delivered 230,000 signatures to the nsw govt. apparently premier berejiklian refused to accept the petition.
in 2003, when will saunders and dave burgess climbed the opera house and painted “no war”, they were speaking truth to power. they were prosecuted by the nsw labor government, fined more than $150,000 and given nine months' of weekend detention for 'malicious damage'. danish architect jørn utzon endorsed their action and even sent will and dave signed photographs of the opera house. fifteen years later, the nsw coalition government, with the shameful support of the labor opposition and the prime minister #scummo
is hypocritically using the opera house to advertise a horse race on the iconic building. this is another gross corporate hijack of public space. .
