This is what load shedding in South Africa looks like when you take a photo (I believe you call them rolling blackouts elsewhere). I never take selfies, but I thought I would take one today after nearly three years on Instagram, and as I was about to do it right now the power went out. This is not an April Fool’s joke. Thank you Escom. I remember listening to BBC News last week and the reporter said the current president of some or other South American country blamed their country’s electricity outages on the political opposition party’s sabotage, who in turn obviously denied any involvement, but stated that the real reason was a prolonged lack of maintenance and government corruption. Well, I can tell you right now that the latter is true in our country and this is a pattern that has repeated itself a few times over in Africa in general, and a few countries in particular (anybody remember a nice place called Rhodesia?). So perhaps some vinyl spinning by early tomorrow morning, or maybe not at all? Roll on 2nd of April 2019. And with the local national election coming up shortly, believe it or not - there will be millions of dumb shitheads that will be voting for the current corrupt government yet again. The mind boggles.

Afrika Bambaataa of the Zulu Nation, Harlem, NYC 1993 Photo: Adama Delphine Fawundu @adamadelphine --Today I will post photos from my hip-hop moments series. I am a self-proclaimed hip-hop head and it was awesome to document 90's hip-hop culture in NYC. This photo was actually taken after an organized truce between Q-Tip of a Tribe Called Quest and a member of Wreckx-n-Effect. Apparently they had a fight and the Zulu Nation stepped in to bring peace within the community. #theafricanway #fastforward #womeninphoto

This amazing lady is yeye akilimali olaide. she is an african american who decided to move to nigeria and immerse herself in the culture of the yoruba people.

she not only wore the clothes and ate the food, but she also learnt the traditions and passed them on to her children. "you have to be willing to be african to be an african."
