What is your lagos story?
i enjoy the lagos that is in-between. the lagos of the 'hustle'. the lagos of young people who have a promising future.
the lagos of yaba, surulere, ojuelegba and obanikoro. the lagos of 'proximity to the island'. of young people who have left their homes and family, it's the lagos of a guaranteed access bank car, or some random unnamed company on the island. the rush at obalende. you know one day, you’ll get more than that 70k salary. the lagos of young lawyers on igbosere,
the lagos of gtb suit and tie. you are now a banker, look the part.
the lagos of paystack; you are carrying your mac, but you know, you will still join that brt queue. its the lagos that flows at the centre, you are not exactly condemned to the hustle, but you are right in the middle waiting for that break. it's the lagos of 'build experience'
do you go to fountain or covenant? or you prefer the atmosphere of harvesters?
church is part of the hustle. you join a workforce, you know, that might be where your helper is.
that lagos is also lonely, tiredness and sweat on the streets of marina. you are on your way home again, carter bridge and oyingbo. are the trucks still there? oh gawd!
you can't do it anymore, you promise to leave. everyday, 'this lagos isn't for me' but you're here.
you go all the way to the fourth round about, wow! what's that about?
so, when you get in a relationship, you escape into someone else. when you have sex, you project your frustration into that fleeting pleasure.
you don't have enough money, and you are now an adult, you crave independence so you won't ask your parents.
that lagos is tough, but you have social media, you can laugh it off every evening before you go to bed.
the journey continues tomorrow.
