The finalists to John Tavares are the #NewYorkIslanders, #TorontoMapleLeafs, #SanJose Sharks, #DallasStars, and #Boston Bruins.

Why this makes sense/no sense for each team:
New York Islanders: Obviously the Islanders want to keep their franchise centre, and they are getting the money to be able to do so. However, JT may now want to sign with them. If he doesn’t, it isn’t the end of the world they now will have Calder trophy winner Mat Barzal as the #1 centre.

Toronto: It would be nice for JT to come close to home, but would it make sense for both parties? Toronto has a lot of upcoming contracts to give to upcoming RFAs such as Matthews, Marner, Nylander and could possibly see one of them go if they give JT a big, long term contract. Also, they will have two first line centres.

San Jose: Besides, the Islanders, this is the best fit for JT. Thornton will most likely not resign which frees up a void in the 1st line centre spot in front of Logan Couture. Also, the Sharks have decided not to keep Mike Hoffman and bought out Paul Martin which could hint in a potential signing of JT.

Dallas: They do have room for him, but they already have deep centres in Seguin, Spezza, Faksa, Hanzal, etc.

Boston: Again, they have Bergeron, and Krejci. They could possibly move Krejci to make room for Tavares but who knows. Also, does JT really fit Boston’s style of play?
