I went with two of my girlfriends on the eve of 11/11 and we said a prayer as we released our krathong’s into the crashing waves of the gulf of thailand. releasing the krathong’s into the water while celebrating loy krathong under the full moon, symbolizes letting go of worries of the past, anxieties about the future and includes a prayer.
there were many people gathered around the ocean to pay their respects by releasing beautiful lotus-shaped rafts, made out of banana leaves decorated with colourful flowers. the history behind the festival is to thank the water goddess for a years worth of her abundant supply, but also as an apology for polluting the water. pollution is at an all time high here and it pains me to see all of the plastic and garbage so carelessly thrown into the water. thankfully there are organized beach clean ups every weekend to help remedy this (and we can all clean the beach ourselves anytime we visit) - but it’s not enough - each of us can do our small part by avoiding single use plastic by, using canvas shopping bags and saying no to unnecessary plastic packaging when shopping. there is no planet b, and living in thailand has been very sobering when it comes to the quality of the air, water and lack of environmentally friendly waste disposal here. every little bit counts when it comes to taking steps to living a more sustainable lifestyle 💛
this might sound obvious to people living in western cultures, but it’s a harsh reality that many places still lack awareness or resources to take proactive action regarding the health of our planet. we can’t turn a blind eye & wait for someone else to fix it. it’s on each of us to do our part to protect the planet that literally gives us life. we cannot survive without oxygen, water or uncontaminated soil that produces life-giving food. ok, rant ovahh☺️. thank you for reading this far & happy 🌕! may all your truest desires be manifested✨ i’m out here just trying to release self sabatoging behaviors, turn some loving-kindness inwards, and create a world where my future children don’t have to worry about drinking, bathing or swimming in contaminated water. what came up for you on this 🌕?
