These days owning a drone definitely has its perks. you can see the world from a completely different perspective, capture new angles, find better compositions of the places and objects you didn’t have access before but it still requires a lot of preparations.
️⃣choose the best timing. drones are pretty bad with low light. (if you don’t have a 4000 eur drone) so sunlight is crucial
️⃣the wind is your enemy. and it’s not like the wind will carry your drone away. drones are pretty strong to withstand pretty high winds. it’s the battery that’s the weak spot. if you are pretty far like 500m and the flying back route is into the wind you can easily run out of battery before the drone returns so you have to land it somewhere away from you. even worse if you’re over water.
️⃣it’s no point in flying without a specific route or idea in your head. just getting up there and go like “we’ll see how it goes” doesn’t work. the flying time is too limited. you need to have an idea of what you’re about the film and what result you’re willing to achieve in the end.
️⃣don’t be afraid to experiment. dji drones have so many features, assistants and modes that will help you take a great shot. some shots are literally impossible if you’re shooting manually so try to explore all kind of mode the drone has so that you would remember them in case you come up with a cool shot and you don’t need to waste any of your (and batteries) time to figure out how to do that. .
