I’m finally back in civilisation which means i can finally show everyone some of the thousands of photos i took. but this photo encapsulated a truly special moment that i want to share so let me paint you a picture.
my guide and i were 2 hours into a hike through the secondary forests of the amazon and we had nearly lost all hope of seeing any of the 12 species of monkey than inhabit the area.
for some reason, we had a touch of luck in our side and all of a sudden the canopy began to boil with movement as three troops of monkeys (squirrel monkey, brown and white front capuchins) began to move through the canopy. it was utter chaos and i didn’t know where to focus my attention. a falling leaf caught my eye, i glanced directly upward and saw a young squirrel monkey terrified to jump from one branch to another. the young monkey kept looking down and doubted its ability to make the 2 metre leap to an adjacent branch and follow is extended family. an elderly member of its family ended up coaxing the youngster jump but i managed to catch a terrified face peering through the canopy.
