With a little snow on the ground, we reached for a bottle of the crunchy 2016 la ferme du plateau “ovin” which is a superlative blend of gamay and grolleau—two of our favorite loire grapes. the wine is made by adrien baloche in azay-le-rideau, a commune of the loire located south west of tours. adrien tends a true biodynamic (though not certified), polyculture farm - a holistic blend of flora and fauna, veggies and goats...apparently he also has a yurt-like structure on his farm which makes us like the wine even more. it’s decidedly natural, from farm to glass. pithy, stony, and mossy. if you need pairing inspiration, the u.s. importer recommends a hunk of stinky washed rind cheese, bread, and a hand rolled cigarette.
