So i was asked a couple weeks ago how we get supplies in so coming home tonight i figured i would share. forgive the crazy video skills, it’s a bit challenging riding on the back of a snow machine trying to record and hang on at the same time 😆. so in the winter when we have snow machines running, we have a large cargo sled that attaches to the machine. this has hauled everything from people to groceries to building supplies. last spring it even hauled my couch out when we did away with it.
you can see space is limited but we’ve become fairly skilled at packing this baby full and getting stuff in. tonight’s haul was a few grocery items, lights, trays, pitting soil, and other supplies to get our seeds started tomorrow. this is our tallest hill so you can get an idea of how steep of a ride it is into the valley.
in the summer, for about 4 months, we are able to drive our truck down this hill and the next to the railroad tracks. from there we load the four wheeler to bring items in. we do have a trailer for the four wheeler, but rarely use it unless we’re hauling wood. the snow machine is by far the better option since it holds more and travel is smoother. we try to make it a point to bring in or take out large items while there’s still snow.
in warm months or the in between season that machines can’t come and go as easily, we have and do carry items in our pack frames on our backs. ryan has hauled upwards of 80lbs on his back two miles home and i’ve carried up to 50 before. it’s not the preferred method, but we do what we have to out here.
tonight i’m happy to be back home and ready to start my garden seeds tomorrow 💕.
