This year saw the end of this handsome buoy-laying vessel, the otto treplin. she was built in 1966 and had a long career in the areas surrounding the german ports of kiel and hamburg. she was retired in 2001 and there where plans to scrap her for pieces. this did not happenedand several plans to make a museum ship out of her were made but failed. instead of this, she was renamed as force and used as a off-shore supply ship. in 2006 she was bought by a private person who gave her her old name again, planing to transform her in a museum ship. this did not work and the ship was sold to an off-shore company again that used her as a supply and research vessel. since other plans and ideas to preserve her kept failing, she was finally scrapped for parts earlier this year. still, her model in a scale of 1:100 is part of our exhibition about navigation on deck 1.
