Had the pleasure of attending @larderbaltimore’s avant brunch with @dinewellbmore.
avant brunch is an intimate meal at their residence in hampden that’s low key, charming; and still makes me smile when i think about the food that was served and the vibe of the whole meal. the food was full of whimsy, creative and took chances that are rarely taken in baltimore. swiping left: miso soup > homemade buckwheat miso, silken tofu; sweet potato salad > w/yuba crumble, thyme, oregano, celery, marjoram, aronia berry vinegar; root veg chips w/winter squash > sunchoke, papa cacho, golden beet, golden ball turnip; bacon fried apples w/fried egg > whistle pig hollow (moon-smoked) bacon; muskrat & chicken p*t pie > faidley's mock-turtle from the eastern shore, local sweet corn, english peas; quesadilla de papas & chorizo > pork chorizo, purple corn nixtamal; cookie plate > thumbprint w/blood orange marmalade, sumac meringue, baci di dama; fig leaf panna cotta > w/strawberry puree, puffed amaranth. there was some great coffee, an elderflower infusion, kombucha and a honey cider cocktail too. i'm not going to say everything was a success but this was some outstanding food. that miso was more miso adjacent but so d**n good with a hint of tart. the pickled grape on the bacon dish may have been my favorite bite. that muskrat p*t pie needs to happen in more places. i don't know what aronia berry vinegar is but i want more. i could eat the quesadilla every day along with that thumbprint cookie. just wonderful, explorative, creative food that tells her story. folks, look out in the spring when helena has her own spot and kris is slinging at his own coffee bar. it's going to be dope. #larderbaltimore #foodnomad
