This week is National Volunteer Week. It's an opportunity to recognise and thank those who generously give their time and make a difference in our community.
I hope this year's theme 'Give a little. Change a lot.' inspires you to volunteer your time and give something back. If you're passionate about the environment, there are plenty of opportunities available to help care for South Australia's precious natural resources. The future of the Coorong is incredibly important and today, I brought together some of the best scientific minds in the state to explore options and develop solutions to protect this treasured resource.
Pictured with me are Professor Sabine Dittmann (Flinders University), Associate Professor David Paton (University of Adelaide), Dr Kane Aldridge (Goyder Institute) and Professor Michelle Waycott (University of Adelaide). We also had Associate Professor Qifeng Ye (SARDI) and Professor Justin Brookes (University of Adelaide) calling in for the meeting.
This group will be a crucial part of this process and will continue to meet over the coming months.

Today’s book launch for β€˜Glenthorne - a Defining History and Indefinite Politics’ was an opportunity to meet with the Friends of Glenthorne and some very involved community members to talk about the history of Glenthorne Farm. Get your hands on your own copy from friendsofglenthorne.org.au and get ready for the next chapter - Glenthorne National Park. More info at glenthorne.com.au πŸ“–πŸƒπŸ¨πŸ‚πŸŸπŸπŸŒ³πŸ¦

Looking forward to launching this book later today at Glenthorne Farm. Written by Dr Pam Smith, Dr Keryn Walshe and Alan Burns, it documents the history of Glenthorne Farm covering its indigenous heritage, its time as the home of Major Thomas O’Halloran, the period when it was a remount station, training horses for combat in the First World War, through to several decades when the farm was owned by the CSIRO and was a significant research Centre, through to the last twenty years when the threat of housing surfaced and the Liberal Party pledged to preserve the farm as a new metropolitan national park. I look forward to the next chapter unfolding in the coming years! 🌳 🐨 🐟 🐦 πŸ‚ 🌲 🚲

Great to spend time with Jeff Hansen, CEO of @seashepherdaustralia this morning. We talked about Sea Shepherd’s international work around whaling and preventing the plundering of our precious oceans, particularly around Africa. I’m looking forward to working alongside Jeff and his team in the future πŸ‹ 🐟 πŸ™ 🐬

Our pre-election statements around renewing the Repat are coming to fruition.
Some will take a while, others can happen more quickly. We’re getting cracking with reopening the hydrotherapy pool right away, a move which will create more access across the southern suburbs to this important rehabilitation service. πŸ₯πŸŠπŸΌβ€β™‚οΈβœ…

Shout out to my number one supporter on Mother’s Day! Thanks Mum for always being there to keep me going through thick and thin! I know you find this political life to be completely foreign and that I’m mad for doing it, but you keep turning up to prop me up! Happy Mother’s Day!

Yesterday Carly’s Law was introduced into the South Australian Parliament. This law, driven and championed through the inspiring work of Sonya Ryan and the @thecarlyryanfoundation , will criminalise predatory behavior where internet users lie about their age and subsequently attempt to meet up offline. It’s been a pleasure to work with Sonya over the last year, including hosting an online safety forum together at Hallett Cove last year.

Today is the first day of Parliament since the state election. Here’s a picture of me getting sworn in as an MP (different from my swearing in a few weeks back as a minister). It’s a great honour to be able to serve my local community for another four years!
