I've got nothing new to post at the moment sorry about that. instead let me share something from my unnecessary trivia knowledge about peter capaldi's costume origins.. especially the coat.
back in 2014 it was announced that capaldi's outfit is going to be a collaboration with an unknown fashion designer who was quickly identified as none other than paul smith.
now many people believed that howard burden aka. the costume designer of series 8 only bought the various shirts and trousers from the floral street shop where capaldi himself buys his clothes from. but when i met peter capaldi in the streets of soho back in june this year, he immediately pointed out that howard burden never designed the outfit that he wore in series 8.
back during the early stages of production of s8, howard was met with a problem of not being sure what capaldi's doctor should wear so he asked peter for his opinion and after both did not come to a conclusion, peter called paul smith and asked for help in which he immediately agreed and told peter to be at his office the next day to discuss the topic a bit more in detail. and so both peter capaldi and howard burden went to paul smith's office/workshop in the floral street shop and were met with many many ideas and concepts until all three agreed on one concept drawing of the outfit shown in the right picture minus the waistcoat. paul smith told them to come back in a few days and he will have a prototype of said outfit done for a test fit (peter showed me the pictures on his phone and also a photo of the original concept art by paul smith. sadly he said no after i asked him nicely if he could send them to me or made them public). the prototype outfit was well received by peter and howard and got adapted for the show and ultimately became one of the most recognisable capaldi outfits to date.
according to peter, the prototype is still somewhere in paul smith's office and i try everything i can to get a personal look on the outfit that ultimately made the 12th doctor look the way he did.
thank you for your patience
