Thank you all for your nice comments about elle skateboarding! it is crazy to think of how i could have easily squashed her accomplishments by letting my own fear of her getting hurt stop her from skateboarding in the first place. my husband was (still is) a skateboarder. when i first saw him, he was a 17 year old kid riding his skateboard around the parking lot. i too skateboarded when i was younger. so i know how scary it can be. but i also know how empowering it is to conquer something scary. i truly believe that little girls today need to face situations where they have to conquer their fears all alone. i cannot skateboard for elle. she has to push her own fear aside. a parenting goal of mine has always been to raise confident & kind girls. it is easy to let fear stand in the way of our own child's future. but the lesson i have learned is that she is even braver and committed than i thought possible. i am so excited to see all the other chances she takes in her life and i hope i have the foresight not to get in her way.
