Snowy steps to #NolanPark on @governorsisland. We hope you enjoyed the first NYC snow of the season! Special thanks to our grounds crew for clearing the weekend's precipitation so @harborschool students have an easy Monday commute! ❄️

#TBT and #Thisweekinhistory In 1987, Governors Island played an important role in one of the most significant diplomacy changes in US history. President Reagan, President-Elect Bush and USSR's General Secretary Gorbachev met on #GovernorsIsland solidifying an earlier announcement from the USSR confirming Soviet Army's downsizing and withdrawal from Europe. The very next day ‪on December 8‬, Reagan and Gorbachev traveled to Washington, DC to sign the INF Treaty, an agreement to eliminate large nuclear missiles - the beginning of the end of the Cold War.

#FBF Happy 1st day of December! We're dreaming of winter wonderlands ahead on this mild NYC day. Pictured here - a snowy 1920s era view of the NYC skyline from Colonels Row.

Have you ever seen this much green in New York? #TBT to 1890 with @discovering_nyc’s illustration and story about the Battery... with a cameo from #GovernorsIsland (in it’s original shape) and Jonathan Williams - the designer and namesake of #CastleWilliams. Check out @discovering_nyc’s post for the full story!

We have so much to be thankful for this year on @governorsisland, but we're especially grateful for our operations, grounds and horticulture teams for keeping over 90 acres of open space green, accessible, sustainable and beautiful all year long. Pictured is our crew restoring the Parade Ground this summer. Over 330,000 square feet of natural turf were used to flatten the 8 acre site to transform it into athletic fields for future use by the public. Thank you to our amazing ops team for all that you do!

Happy Birthday Dick Smothers! Born on this day on #governorsisland in 1939 when their father was stationed at the army base, Dick (left) and his older brother Tom (right) grew up to become the highly influential political satirists the Smothers Brothers. 2017 also marks the 50th anniversary of what would be the defining moment of their careers - The Smothers Brothers Comedy Hour. #dicksmothers #tomsmothers #smothersbrothers #smothersbrotherscomedyhour #thisdayinhistory 📸 IMDB
